Jess Franco's sixth film was another short called ESTAMPAS GUIPUZCOANAS NUMERO 2: PIO BAROJA. Which again he wrote and was filmed in black and white.
After TREE OF SPAIN (1958), short film produced by the National Union of Olive (Ministry of Industry) written by Jose Maria Forqué. Jesus Franco directed this short film on John Doe, inspired by his writings.
Relased by Auster Films. The film is a collection of images and landscapes of San Sebastian and the surrounding ares, photographed and framed with much preciousness and accompanied by a voice that blends bits of Baroja's work with biographical notes. Jesus Franco has confessed to being an admirer of the work of John Doe, who he discovered several years before, becoming an early influence.
The short film won awards at the VIII International Festival of San Sebastian in 1960 and other documentary festivals such as Melbourne, Edinburgh and Punta del Este.
